Recreation Gound

Welcome to the website of Friends of Histon & Impington Recreation AKA locally as ‘Friends of the Rec ‘

Friends of Histon & Impington Recreation is a Registered Charity (charity number 1100193) and was formed in 2003 principally to help community fundraising with the Histon & Impington  Recreation Ground redevelopment.

The three pillars of the charity activity have since developed and can now be summarised as

“Supporting sport, wellbeing and recreation in our community “

Sport – The Friends of the Rec are involved in the promotion and development of new sporting and exercise activities for residents of all ages primarily on Histon & Impington  Recreation Ground. The Friends currently organise over 15 weekly activities on the Rec and helped start HI Runners in April 2014.

Wellbeing- The charity has very close working relationships with the Village Older People’s Coordinator team which includes the Friends organising a number of dedicated activities to support older people including a stroke survivors club. With the appointment of Annabell Webb as Village Mental Wellbeing Champion, the Friends will work closely with Annabell on related activities. Beginning on Thursday 4th   May 2017 ‘The Friends  will be running Art Therapy groups for older adults which are  to be led by Annabell

Recreation – with a number of popular fundraising events the Friends help with donations to help develop facilities on the Recreation Ground and this includes the Rec Play are. At present funds are being raised to provide a new quiet area on the Rec which will  include restoration of an old Agricultural Pump

Our community fundraising takes place throughout the year with a variety of different events including the Bonfire Burn 10k and Flaming June Half Marathon both now well established on the local running event calendar. The Friends like to innovate with new events and a good example was the first Strawberry 50 Community Cycling event held in September 2015.

The 2017 Friends of Rec Spring/ Summer  Newsletter will be delivered to every village home in early April and this features info on  the Friend’s most ambitious 2017 SPORT & ACTIVITIES PROGRAMME  which includes
